[What to Recycle]   [Leaf/Yard Waste]   [Special Pickup Week]   [Per Bag System]

If you must bag recycling items:
Use a large clear bag
Do not "bag" and rebag items
This takes time for someone to open all those bags.

What to Recycle:  [top]

No More Separating!
Place into the recycle bin or clear bag

Aluminum and Steel Cans
All food and beverage cans
Clear and Colored Glass
All food and drink containers

Plastics:  All plastic containers with a #1 - #7 in the recycling symbol on the bottom of the container such as milk, juice, yogurt, butter, snack tray containers, water, soda, cleaning products, laundry products and personal care items.  Yes, even those plastic grocery bags!  See what other items you may add to the list just by checking for the #1 - #7 on the item!  If you find an unusual item with the #1 - #7 please call the Recycling Office at 833-1111 and let us know so we can add it to the list.  Happy hunting!

White and colored paper, envelopes, junk mail, shredded paper, computer and mixed paper, non-corrugated packaging such as cerial, Jell-O, cake mix, detergent boxes, gift boxes, shoe boxes, etc. and corrugated cardboard, all newspapers (inserts included), magazines and catalogs.  For corrugated cardboard that you cannot break down to fit into a clear bag, flatten and bundle into no larger than 4' bundles.  Place next to your blue recycling container and away from your trash!

**If you do not have a recycling bin you can pick one up in the Recycling Office located on the main floor Room 101 in the Municipal Building - OR - place recycling items into a clear plastic bag.

Reminders

Please rinse all containers then you won't have a problem with unwanted insects and pests.  Remove all liners from boxes and dispose of in your trash.  No foil gift-wrapping paper or paper contaiminated by food waste or other municipal waste.  No milk cartons, waxed paper, foam egg cartons, styrofoam, or mixed cardboard (pizza boxes).

Per Bag System

Per Bag Service is available for residents who do not generate enough trash for weekly pickup.  The details for this service are as follows:

Come into the Recycling Office to sign up for the service, prior to the first day of the quarterly billing cycle and purchase a pack of (5) trash bags for $25.00.  You are then given the phone number for Waste Management to call and advise them you have signed up for the bag program.

The Recycling Office calls Waste Management to let them know you have come into the office and signed up for the service and purchased a pack of the trash bags.

Once Waste Management has heard from both of us, they will remove you from the quarterly billing.

When you are on this program, you MAY PARTICIPATE IN WEEKLY RECYCLING as well as the six (6) weeks of scheduled leaf/yard waste pickups.  Your regular pickup day remains the same.  With SingleStream Recycling you may now package everything together for your recycling!  Plastics have been expanded to include #1 - #7 for recycling.

You will be taken off the quarterly billing from Waste Management.  We advise that you have a good trash container with a tight lid to place the trash bag into.  When you have trash, wrap it tightly and place into your trash container.  You will want to place the trash bag out for pickup only when it is full, otherwise you will not be saving any cost.

The disadvantage of this program is any trash not able to be placed into the trash bag will not be picked up.  You will need to make special arrangements to take care of those items.

Leaf/Yard Waste  [top]

Leaf waste MUST be placed in the clear plastic bags for a pickup at curbside.  These bags are sold at many retail stores in the area or the Recycling Office in Municipal Building.  The clear bags are 32-gallon size, 25 bags on a roll for $4.00 per roll

Millcreek residents dispose of over 4,000 tons per year between curbside pickup and drop off material to the Millfair Compost & Recycling Center.  Leaf waste is:  Leaves from trees, bushes, and other plants, garden residues, chipped shrubbery, branches and tree trimmings, not including grass clippings.  Grass clippings must be bagged as trash.

Residents have two choices for disposing of their leaf.

*For curbside pickup:  Leaf waste will continue to be picked up on your regular refuse day during the scheduled weeks listed in the calendar.  All leaf waste must be bagged in clear bags.  Leaf and yard waste is:  leaves, garden residue, shrubbery, and tree trimmings.  Grass is not to be included.  Small twigs and branches, broken up, will fit nicely in the bags with leaves.  Shrubbery and tree trimmings need to be bundled.  No branch that is longer than 4' and/or 4" in diameter will be accepted at curbside.

Leaf waste may also be taken to the Millfair Compost and Recycling Center.

The Millfair Recycling & Compost Center:  The Center, located at 2301 Millfair Road, is open six days a week early spring through early December.  Additional hours will be posted at the gate if needed.  Leaf waste will be accepted as well as shrubbery, brush and tree trimmings.  These items will need to be emptied out of any containers or bags at the designated composting area.  Material that is not accepted are:  grass, sod, dirt or anything that has a large root system attached, food, garden residue along with bamboo, ornamental grasses and corn stalks.

Special Pickup Week  [top]

During the week of September 14th, Waste Management will pick up the brush, limbs, branches and shrubs that have been bundled.  NO leaves or bagged material will be picked up at this time.  Brush, limbs, branches and shrubs must be tied and bundled and must be no longer than 4' and no branch larger than 4" in diameter.  Please remember that one person must be able to pick up these bundles.  If the bundles are not tied or are too heavy for one person, they will not be picked up.  Please keep this in mind when you are placing items at the curb on your regular trash day.  These items can also be taken to our Compost Center at 2301 Millfair Road during scheduled hours Spring through Fall.

Millcreek Residential Customers:
Please don't put all your recycling and trash together.  Space them apart for easier pickup.
