Burning Ordinance Information   [top]

bullet

Burning is prohibited within 75' of any building or structure and/or 50' of any property line.

bullet

Our hauler picks up 99% of all household waste, recycling and leaf and yard waste.  Therefore, there is no need to burn anything.  It is illegal by Pennsylvania Law (Act 101) and Millcreek Ordinance (97-2, 2000-1 & 2001-14) to burn anything that must be recycled or composted.  This includes all:  cans, bottles and glass, newspapers and magazines, corrugated cardboard, mixed paper and mixed cardboard, garbage and food waste.  Leaves and yard waste (includes leaves, garden residue, shrubbery, tree trimmings and similar materials, but not grass clippings).  If you cannot leave the grass clippings on the lawn then you must bag this material as trash.  Burning takes money away from the township in the form of grants that are based on the tonnage of recycling collected.  Please don't burn, instead, please RECYCLE, or COMPOST.

bullet

Any person violating the above ordinances shall pay the fines prescribed for such violations.  The following fines are prescribed:  First violation - $100; second & subsequent - $300.

Ordinance 97-2

Ordinance 2000-1

Ordinance 2001-14

Please don't burn - Choose to RECYCLE, or COMPOST
