Information for Construction of a Private Garage

for full information pertaining to your specific project.)

  1. A private garage or accessory building, separate from a dwelling, provided front yard, side and rear yards at least equal to those required for a dwelling on the same lot, shall be provided.  (See Example A)

  2. Where a private garage or accessory building is located at least ten (10) feet to the rear of the dwelling proper, and at least five (5) feet from a porch or patio attached to said dwelling, the minimum side yard clearance shall be one (1) foot.  (See Example B)

  3. In no case, however, shall a detached private garage or accessory building be located nearer than ten (10) feet to a dwelling on an adjoining lot.

  4. An accessory building totaling one hundred (100) square feet or less without a permanent foundation shall be exempt from a building permit requirement but shall meet other requirements of this section.

  5. The maximum height of a detached garage is sixteen (16) feet.)
